2019-09-12 David Glen (cocuswood) with Redwood tenors and Kinnaird Original long bass. Colin Kyo chanter and a worn out chanter reed I don’t remember the name of. It’s my easy to play set. Listen to the harmonics on the B, D, and F#! Don’t listen to all the birls I missed…
Mrs. Duncan MacFadyen, Duncan Lamont, Drumlithie
2019-08-22 Chris Terry drone with Ackland Overtone drone reeds. Shepherd MK3 Classic chanter with Shepherd Bb chanter reed.
Deer Forest of the Red Stag – I first heard this tune on the Controversy of Pipers Album played by Jimmy Anderson, however he only plays one part and it was only called Deer Forest. Alasdair Gillies plays two parts and that’s what I play here. However, there’s yet another second part composed by Alex M MacIver that can be found here.
The Parting Glass (in A minor) – This tune feels quite dark when played within the confines of the highland bagpipe scale; sorry the C naturals are just a wee bit sharp!
2019-02-01 David Glen cocuswood drones with original Kinnaird drone reeds. 473 Hz Colin Kyo chanter. Recorder is right behind me on top of a bookshelf. Recordings of this pipe with a set of Rocket reeds can be heard here.
Playing on the Ceiling <- a composition of mine, the title being inspired by a comment to a video I posted on Facebook which was apparently recorded with my iPhone not knowing which way was up, so I’m upside down in the whole video (though playing different tunes, not this one).
2018-10-11 Gellaitry drones with original Kinnaird tenors and X-TREME regular bass drone reed with Colin Kyo chanter. Recorder is off behind my left shoulder.
Lark in the Morning & Franc A’Phoill
AUDIO ABOVE WAS RECORDED WITH A ZOOM H4n PRO.
AUDIO BELOW WAS RECORDED WITH A ZOOM H2 WHICH GRADUALLY LOST FUNCTIONALITY RESULTING IN QUIET RECORDINGS THAT HAD TO BE ARTIFICIALLY AMPLIFIED TOWARD THE END OF ITS USE.
2018-05-03 Gellaitry drones with Ackland prototype drone reeds (the final version of these are now known as Overtone reeds) and Colin Kyo chanter with Sound Supreme reed (I think, red wrapping). Recorded from the front (if I remember correctly) because the drones are very robust and would overpower the recording if it was placed in my usual spot behind me.
Bo Mhin na Toitean, Boys of Malin, & Jenny Dang the Weaver
